Two wood duck babies fledging.
Getting outside has never felt so good!

Greetings Willistown Parks & Recreation Friends,

It's never felt as good to get outside as it does now! You can see the excitement, joy, and relief of these baby wood ducks as they leave their nest. How much can you relate to their sense of freedom and wonder when you're in the great outdoors?

We all know how important experiencing nature is to our mental and physical well being, especially now during these trying times. I am very grateful to the Willistown Township Board of Supervisors and Township Manager for keeping our preserves and trails open throughout this pandemic.

The Stay at Home Order was just extended through June 4. Let's strengthen our resolve to take the best care of ourselves and our loved ones by enjoying the extensive public lands our beautiful area offers.

Unfortunately, all of our May events have been cancelled in accordance with the Governor's orders. I look forward to when we can spend time together in our parks! Meanwhile,
Willistown Parks & Rec will be offering fantastic programming to entertain you and yours and help you get outside.

Stay tuned for an announcement about our award-winning outdoor adventure program, GO WilMa!, and the introduction of our new Willistown Wonders activity program and Willistown People Pollinate, #peopleneedpollinators initiative.

Best wishes go to all of our Willistown Parks & Recreation fans including our Willistown Summer Fun campers and families. The Township and school district are hoping for the best, but only time will tell what the summer will bring. Keep your eyes peeled for our Enews for updates regarding our Summer Fun Camp program.

Yours in the out of doors,

Black Nymph Spotted Lanternfly

The invasive Spotted Lanternfly looks like this right now. Please notify Mary of any sightings on Township lands!
The Spotted Lanternfly has spread throughout Pennsylvania since its discovery in Berks County in 2014. It feeds on the sap of many different plants including grapevines, maples, black walnut, and more. If you see a Spotted Lanternfly on any Willistown trails or in our preserves, please email Mary the location on the property and if you were able to kill the insect. Check out our Stewardship Bulletin for more information including a monthly management calendar. For questions about the lanternfly, info, and to report sightings, contact Penn State Extension at 1-888-422-3359.
